The phrase "for the birds" means that something is worthless, trivial, foolish, or a complete waste of time. Everything that Jeff Manker's study of ornithology is not. Jeff says, "I believe ornithology should be taught in U.S. high schools because I believe high school ornithology can save the world." Pretty bold statement, right?
