Day 1 of PlantCon was one of those days I know I’ll look back on and remember for a long time 🌿 I’m still trying to put into words how much it meant to me.
The day started bright and early ☀️ It was so exciting to meet the other Special Guests (The Plant and The Pour, The Black Thumb, Sydneyplantguy, Saint Planthony), especially Britt Parrish — we’ve known each other for 6 years and, finally, PlantCon brought us together IRL.
We jumped into our first activity of the day: building a biOrb to compete against the other Special Guests in a silent auction (I made a reel all about this activity if you want to check it out!). We had 30 minutes to shop the floor, and 30 minutes to actually build the terrarium and it was such a fun experience.
After this we had a little time to explore and prepare for presentations and panels lined up throughout the day. I was honestly pretty anxious, as I knew I had my very first panel coming up, and I’ve never really identified as a public speaker. But it ended up going so well. The other Special Guests were so supportive and by the time we were answering the first question, my nerves subsided and I was able to speak more confidently than I ever expected 🎤
The panel audience was full — people dragged chairs from tables outside the stage area to listen in, and that meant so much to me.
What was most meaningful, however, was the meet and greet after the panel. So many of you lined up to say hi and share your love for plants and your stories. It was amazing to meet so many kind people, take photos, and even sign a couple things, too! 💚
Long story short: I am so, so grateful for this experience and opportunity. PlantCon Day 1 was everything I dreamed of and more, and I can’t wait to share Day 2 with you soon 🪴
