You can hear the sweet sound of success in a surprising place—Yakima's toughest neighborhood. It's the sound of Yakima Music en Acción (YAMA), whom we are proud to recognize with the first of our 2016 Golden Apple Moments.

YAMA aims to lift the prospects of underprivileged children through studying classical music. Students from schools nearby Yakima's Garfield Elementary attend YAMA, in grades three through eight, rehearsing there at and at home.

Watch and share this inspiring story of innovation in education! here and at: http://kcts9.org/programs/golden-apple-moments/yakima-music-en-accion

With a shared love of education, KCTS 9 and PEMCO Insurance are proud to present Golden Apple Moments, celebrating inspirational ideas from people who think a little differently, while reimagining the way we teach our young people. Golden Apple Moments challenge the status quo and can be a model for other educators. Learn more at: http://KCTS9.org/goldenapplemoments #goldenapplemoments #TeacherTuesday #WAedu
