A tree with a prominent burl covered in moss. Burls are abnormal growths on trees that are often caused by some form of stress, such as injury, viruses, fungi, or insect infestation. The tree in the image appears to be a Prumnopitys taxifolia, also known as mataฤซ or black pine, a coniferous tree native to New Zealand.
