Here is the latest mock trade proposal for the Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks. The Mariners' offense would instantly become formidable with the additions of Eugenio Suarez and Josh Naylor. However, this package appears to be quite expensive, considering both players are potential rentals.
The Mariners would acquire Suarez, who is currently hitting .249/.318/.568, boasting an .886 OPS, 31 home runs, and 77 RBI's, with a 2.9 WAR. Suarez would provide a significant power boost, potentially replacing Williamson or allowing for creative lineup configurations, such as Jorge Polanco taking over at second base, with Suarez serving as the designated hitter.
Additionally, Naylor would bring a .295/.364/.460 batting line, an .823 OPS, 11 home runs, and 58 RBI's, with a 1.2 WAR. Naylor could potentially replace Luke Raley or Donovan Solano in the lineup or serve as the designated hitter, with Polanco playing second base.
With these two additions, the Mariners would have five players on their roster with an OPS over .800 and nine players with an OPS over .700, instantly making them one of the most formidable lineups.
However, it is crucial to consider the negotiations, as the Mariners' pitching depth in their farm system is limited. Ryan Sloan is a valuable arm that could be regretted if lost in a few years. Brandyn Garcia is another promising asset who could contribute to the team this year as a second left-handed pitcher out of the bullpen and potentially join the rotation in a year or two. This trade carries significant risk but also substantial upside.
Ultimately, I would attempt to negotiate and attach a hitter, even if ranked higher than Sloan, to the deal. If the Diamondbacks refuse to budge and insist on this offer, I would then consider taking the risk and executing the trade.
This is the kind of trade that could potentially bring a championship to Seattle for the first time.
Imagine a hypothetical nine-man lineup featuring Suarez at third base, J.P. Crawford at shortstop, Jorge Polanco at second base, Luke Raley at first base, Josh Naylor as the designated hitter, Randy Arozarena in left field, Julio Rodriguez in center field, Dom Canzone in right field, and Cal Raleigh at catcher.
This lineup boasts nine hitters capable of elite performance on any given day, making it an extremely challenging lineup to pitch against in a short playoff series.
Hopefully, Dipoto will take a calculated risk on these two players, even if it means a slight overpay.
