🍎 Imagine an apple forest—not an orchard, but a wild jungle of apples. Now imagine it’s on a remote island in the middle of Lake Michigan, untouched for over 100 years. Sounds like something out of a dream, right?

Beaver Island is home to exactly that, and it’s where Jeremy VanSice of Bee Well Mead & Cider has been harvesting apples to create the one-of-a-kind Beaver Island Cider.

But it goes even deeper. With the help of Luke Marion from MIgardener and geneticists from Washington State University’s My Fruit Tree Project, the history of these unique apple trees is being uncovered, with some potentially new apple varieties waiting to be named.
