Sharing a song from yesterday’s anniversary of Alice In Chains performing at San Jose State University Events Center. This concert happened 33 years ago.

This is “Hate to Feel”. I love this performance as Layne is very in tune and happy to be in sync with Jerry. This was also the last song before they came back for an encore. They ended the the concert with Angry Chair & Man in the Box.

Happiest of Birthdays to Miranda Starr!

Miranda is one of my most favorite people on this planet. She always has time for me and she’s been a blessing in my life.

I met Miranda many years ago and we had lost touch for a few of them. Once we reconnected, we picked up where we left off. Her heart is bigger than this universe. I hope she has a wonderful day today. Love you Miradoll!

Miranda was the love of Mike Starr’s life and vice versa!

Sharing an April 1993 article from Guitarist Magazine. This is an interview with Jerry.

I used to share a retro article once a week on here (IG/Facebook), however, sometimes other things come up, like a lot of anniversaries in one day or not enough time in the day. I’ll try and start sharing articles again, from the OG time period and newer incarnation, which isn’t so new anymore.

In April 1993, the band had returned from their overseas run with Screaming Trees; they were starting a short run in the U.S. and preparing for their biggest on taking - Lollapalooza 1993. On top of that they had made plans for the video shoot (slated for June 13th), for their latest upcoming release “What the Hell Have I”.
The song would appear on the movie soundtrack for “Last Action Hero”. Needless to say, I can only imagine what they’d been thinking about when this was all in front of them.

Excerpt: “When I found out that Ed was a fan of ours I was totally shocked.” Jerry tells us. “Aside from being a really good guy he loves all types of music, and he’s a brilliant player and writer, so 1 feel both happy and privileged to call him my friend - not only because of who he is, but also because he’s a sweetheart. He’s really funny! I grew up listening to the guy, and I can still remember the first time I heard Van Halen ‘I’. I joined one of those stupid record clubs where you send ‘em a penny and they give you 10 L.Ps. I ordered Van Halen ‘I’ and ‘II’ purely because everyone in school was talking about ‘em - I knew nothing about Ed’s music.”

I still remember those record clubs! Smart for record labels, but for the buyer, a massive amount paid for them in the end. As always, if you’re unable to read, consider taking a screen shot and reading them through a reader app or through your camera roll.

Happiest of Birthdays to Sean’s sister Denise Kinney Everett.

I have met Denise a few times over the years and she’s always treated me with kindness.

1st image is an older image with her brother Sean; 2nd image is Mike’s sister Melinda Starr & Denise. I believe this was taken at the 2016 Mike Starr tribute at Louie G’s. I love that pic of you two Mel❤️

One of my press photos taken by Danny Clinch on the night of the Unplugged taping. On the lower right hand bottom of the AiC press photos is the date, YYMM; this one is 9606. Columbia Records put this press photo out to promote the upcoming release of the album the following month, on July 30, 1996.

Slides 2 & 3 is an article I pulled from the internet archive Wayback Machine. This article by Decibels, written by Jayne Margetta, sums up how impressive this album was and how it has affected all of us; either new or long time followers of Alice, Jerry, Layne, Sean and Mike Inez. It’s definitely worth your time to read it.

Tomorrow I’ll share more, I’m a tad bit under the weather today, so I’m going to save the rest for tomorrow. I have a couple of important posts tomorrow too; one a memorial and one a birthday, so stay tuned.

One last note, go check out ’s post for today. His words about his contribution to the Unplugged album is really important.

We should also note how incredible Scotty Olson played on this album and then came back in 2007 for the Benaroya Hall show to help their friends once again. It was amazing to watch.

3 of the most iconic images of Alice In Chains in 1996.its been 30 Years since they were taken. They represent one album that goes without saying…. But for those of you who aren’t familiar with them, they represent Alice In Chains’ history making “Unplugged” album and the day it was recorded.

Photographer Danny Clinch managed to capture such memorable images for an equally memorable album. 10 years ago, when I was writing for an online music publication, I reached out to Clinch and asked him about photographing the night.

ME: What was it like to photograph Alice in Chains at the MTV Unplugged show?
DC: It was real cool to work with Alice in Chains, especially before the legendary MTV taping. I was able to be there for the sound check as well as the show. I love sound check, as you can hear the band work out the songs and discuss how they would play the songs in an unplugged setting.
ME: Do you have any more photographs of Alice in Chains from the MTV Unplugged concert?
DC: Columbia Records has most of them. I only have a few that I hung on to for some reason; maybe they were outtakes.
ME: Did you photograph Alice in Chains any other time in your career?
DC: The “Unplugged” concert was my only shoot with them.

I should say that my interview was short because both of us were on tight schedules and I honestly didn’t expect Danny to respond to my email. I was encouraged to publish what I did get. 10 years later, I would’ve waited until I could’ve asked question deserving of a full interview with such a legendary photographer.

Danny went on to say that if his memory serves him correctly, James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, both original founding members of Metallica, were among the audience (which we know all 4 Metallica members were there).
Through his lens eye, Danny was able to capture the most vivid images; some looking like watercolor paintings. I appreciate and thanked Danny Clinch for taking a few moments out of his very busy schedule to talk to me; maybe we’ll see some of those outtakes appear soon. More on Unplugged after I get some sleep. —————————————————————

On this day 33 years ago, Alice In Chains performed at the Salem Armory in Salem Oregon. The band was on the 2nd leg of the “Dirt” US tour.

Circus of Power and Masters of Reality opened.

The clippings are from the Oregonian and the Statesman Journal. The 2nd to last image is the official gig poster, I have one in my collection. The last slide is the review of the show. I think the title of that one is funny; “the future of grunge”! Well “grunge” had already been out since it exploded in Seattle after the release of Nirvana’s Nevermind album. But, I’ll say this, as a lifelong resident of Washington state, having lived in the area during that time, grunge was not a genre, it was an era. That word has been thrown around for years. None of the band that came out of here even call themselves grunge. They are rock bands, period! I experienced a lot of the hoopla happening and those experiences are what made it an era. A time in Seattle when music exploded and the world took notice!

Happiest of Birthdays to Kevin Martin of Candlebox! I first saw Candlebox in 1994 at the Crocodile and have attended several more shows throughout the past 32 years. It has been pretty great to see Kevin literally grow from a young man to an established, well loved musician, father and husband. I can also say that every single time I’ve communicated with him, he’s been respectful and truly just a nice individual. I couldn’t be more grateful.

It was really great to see Kevin included in Layne Staley’s book, “This Angry Pen of Mine”. Kevin shared a memory that I’d never heard before. And that’s what made it so special. It was wonderful to see him included.

I do hope you have a great birthday today, Kevin!
