Thanks to the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe for letting me share their story:

IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT WATER...
IT’S OUR REGION’S LEGACY THAT WE’RE COMMITTED TO PROTECTING.
By working with the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, we're making it happen.

25 years ago an agreement between the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe and TPU seemed like a long shot. BUT, IT HAPPENED. Open minds, understanding, promises made and kept created the partnership we have today.

Together we're creating habitat, researching and restoring wildlife populations and providing drinking water to more than 800,000 people.

Still telling the stories of amazing communities:

You BRING your own bag.
SAVE the straw.
BUY local.

WHY? Because like Marlene's Market & Deli - Tacoma you know the biggest movements start small.

Every day we vote with our dollars. Evergreen Options members vote for renewable energy projects.

For as little as $3 a month, you can join the local movement committed to changing how the PNW gets its power.

We’re committed to delivering clean energy, and we’re partnering with businesses like Sierra Pacific Industries to show the country how:

Challenge accepted! #TPU for the win!

This is what we love about being #communitypowered:
@GuyPet – we take your challenge and we want to spread it as far as we can.

On your next bill, you can give the difference of power for a family for the same amount of time you were without. 100% of your donations go to our Utility Assistance fund that helps local struggling families pay their utility bill.

Look for the option to donate on your next bill and use this calculator based on our average customer’s power use.

+$3.15 = Donate one day of power
+$6.30 = Donate two days of power
+$9.45 = Donate three days of power

[If you decide not to donate, you will not be charged for the hours you were without power nor will your account be credited. Donations are voluntary.]

Story telling comes in all forms, my favorite is when it comes from our customers!

Story telling comes in all forms, my favorite is when it comes from our customers!

Strong winds slapped our region on early Sunday morning, knocking out power to 300,000 people in the Puget Sound. At Tacoma Public Utilities, 19,000 families, businesses, schools and churches went dark impacting thousands more. Every line crew we have came in when the wind was still at its worst, so they could be ready to repair the grid; YOUR grid.

Using your photos, calls and information, we created repair lists better than our computers could provide. Our dispatchers knit together a picture of our system that enabled repairs to happen faster than we could have anticipated. That's what it means to be community powered. When customers become advocates, calling in information for their neighbors and themselves, amazing things can happen.

Thank you for being our customers. Thank you for helping us. We wouldn’t be a public utility without public support.

We’re better together.

.........................................
Below are some of the photos you shared with our crews during and after the storm. These pictures were instrumental in the restoration process.

Such a showing of generosity in Pierce County; it's incredible to witness. $45k in gifts were collected by employees from employees, to give to those in need this Christmas.
Proud to be a member of #MyTPU

Christmas will come this year for 191 families in need, thanks in part to you. It’s as simple as that.

Last Friday was delivery day for TPU’s Adopt-a-Family gift drive. Our employees received requests from some of the most vulnerable in Pierce County. These wish lists were humbling; kids asked for warm socks, adults wanted soap. There was a family of 6 that asked for a refrigerator, it was their “something special” item. We can’t imagine making Christmas dinner for our families without a fridge, and now they won’t have to.

We wouldn’t be able to give the way we do, if we didn’t receive also.

When you say, “thank you” to one of our customer services reps on the phone, or ask one of our lineworkers, “how ‘ya doing?” – You’re FILLING US. When you tell us to “stay safe before a storm,” or offer one of us a cup of coffee in the dark of an outage – You’re REMINDING US. When you smile in our lobby or wave to us on the road – You’re TELLING US.

"This is the community that we serve, and we’ve got a great community."

So as TPU customers, we want you to know, you helped make Christmas happen for 191 people. With everything you did for us this past year, we were able to pay it out in dividends.

This pole in Purdy is holding up the weight of Tacoma's power:

At Tacoma Public Utilities, we work with our past to help create a better future.

In Purdy, we were inspired by the generations before us to do something radical this year. We went from four power towers, down to one, improving reliability and the environment.

Really excited how our organization's story turned out. Reporting, means telling a story, whether it's for the news or a public utility, it's finding the compelling and giving it a voice.

You may only see us in the water you turn on or in the electricity when you flip a switch, but we see you in everything we do. You are the vital link to our services and the ability we have to provide them.

For 125 years, your support has shaped this community, our region’s natural resources and our organization. Thank you for your contribution!

Did you know there's something fishy going on in Lake Kokanee?

They’re BACK!

The Chinook salmon we released two years ago have made it home to our Cushman Hatchery at Lake Kokanee.
These kings will go on to become the legacy of the Skokomish River; It will be their eggs that create a spring run here in the North Fork.
.
.
.
.
.
These Chinook were raised from stock in the Skagit River before being released by Tacoma Power; a special thank you to the Upper Skagit Indian Tribe, Swinomish Tribal Community, Sauk-Suiattle Indian Tribe, Skokomish Indian Tribe, Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife, Long Live the Kings, Northwest Treaty Tribes and many others for their support of this project.

We have a dedicated team of passionate biologists and wildlife techs working every day behind the scenes to make sure wildlife thrives at our hydroprojects. Not just because it’s written into our Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) license, but because our staff wouldn’t have it any other way.

Love reporting, especially on the fun stories:

Here at TPU it’s not just water and power we manage, there’s a lot of land too. It means we have crews tackling the rugged outdoors, and even in this case the rocky waters of the Green River.

There's just one problem:

Really proud how this story turned out!

Alder Dam was one of the tallest structures west of the Mississippi when it was created in 1945. The marvel sits 40 miles south of Tacoma and supplies enough electricity to power 16k homes.
