WA STATE ACTION ALERT: Prohibiting Unauthorized Encampments on Campus

HB 2589, which would prohibit unauthorized encampments on university campuses, has a hearing in the state legislature at 1:30 PM *this Wednesday, 1/28* and we need your help!

This bill does not ban encampments - it simply provides clear, neutral rules that give universities more oversight to ensure that the learning environment remains safe and accessible to all students at all times. When encampments take over central spaces, other students lose access to places they rely on for learning and daily life. The bill addresses conduct, not ideas, and relies on time, place, and manner standards that already exist in the First Amendment. This legislation would help restore balance between free expression and the university’s core educational mission.

Since 10/7, the Iranian diaspora has stood alongside the Jewish community. We share a common enemy in the IRGC, a regime that terrorizes and slaughters Iranians, as well as fuels antisemitism and violence globally. It’s time for Seattle’s Jewish community to stand with the Iranian people and rally together for a free Iran!

The signs presented in this post do not support the Palestinian cause; instead, they promote hate, antisemitism, and violence, which leads to bloodshed rather than peace. Calling on University of Washington!

A University of Washington student group is holding an off-campus lecture describing the October 7, 2023, Hamas massacre in southern Israel a victory for the pro-Palestinian movement.
This is not political debate, it is public celebration of a massacre and a clear threat to Jewish students and faculty’s safety and dignity on campus. The University of Washington must launch an immediate investigation into this student club and report what steps it will take to protect affected students and enforce its code of conduct.

A clear hate crime in West Seattle is being dismissed as “a scuffle” instead.
Here’s how to act locally:
* Contact our 34th District legislators — Sen. Emily Alvarado, Rep. Brianna Thomas, and Rep. Joe Fitzgibbon, and Seattle City Council member Rob Saka (District 1)— and urge them to speak out publicly against antisemitic violence and ensure hate-crime enforcement is strong.
* Report antisemitic or bias incidents to SPD Safe Place (206-233-5000) or 911 if immediate danger.
* Also report incidents to ADL via their 24/7 Bias and Hate Incident Hotline: 1-800-339-5533 or online at adl.org/reportincident.
* Share accurate information and stand with our Jewish neighbors.
* Support ADL PNW, StandWithUs Northwest, and other local Jewish organizations working to keep communities safe.

Help us identify who displayed a N*zi flag and a hate symbol in an apartment window on Capitol Hill, just blocks from a major synagogue, Temple De Hirsch Sinai. Acts like this have no place in our community.
