Really sadly it hasn’t worked out with the pony we had on loan - so, after a few more crashing tumbles, we are working on building Merlin’s confidence again. Thanks to King Sparky👑 and Brigadier General Warrior 🛡️ for being complete unicorns for the past few days when Merlin has asked to ride you. It’s so hard getting the pony and child dynamic right.
I seem to keep getting it wrong and it’s so frustrating and utterly heartbreaking. 💔

Toby’s parents were married for almost 34 years. They dressed for dinner (in black tie) every evening. I probably need to give you a little context. Bobby (my completely legendary FIL) grew up with a house full of servants but by the time he married young, sweet Sally (his 4th wife and my MIL!) he had been disinherited by his father (for a painfully honourable reason) and squandered the rest on a (very) fast life. Sally had the gargantuan task of looking after silver spooned 🥄 Bobby all by herself and on a shoe string. They ate three courses for dinner, all foraged from the garden and harvested from the local area, every night and Bobby would refuse to eat the same thing two nights in a row. He was temperamental but would have and quite often did give away the shirt on his back.
I hasten to add that poor Toby does not get this cordon blue/domestic goddess treatment from me, however, I am only his first wife!
Toby took this video of me, I think, because I am not in dirty breeches and I put on some mascara because I frightened myself in the mirror this morning. Poor lad, hopefully his next wife will make more of an effort. My entire family always, without fail, compliment me vociferously if I ever brush my hair, put on make up and wear something nice - perhaps there is a lesson to be learned in there somewhere… 🤔

We have been missing Whisper pony a lot (he has been retired as he’s very old and his owners who love him very very much have got him back with them) so I thought I’d do a little Wonder Pony reel for Merlin to look at in the morning. It’s amazing what they were doing together. A remarkable little unicorn. Merlin was only 5 in some of these clips. You make me proud every day, darling Merlin 🧙🏻‍♂️ I love you. X

Happy Friday everyone!! Hope you’re smiling too 🤍

We’ve had to put the scruffy old dog lead grass-reins back into circulation but I’ve ordered some longer which we cannot live without, the pony ones are too small for Eddie. I spoke to today and our discount code merlin5 is still live so please use if you need to. I get so many questions about those clever reins - been meaning to talk about them for ages. Sorry if you’ve been waiting!! They help Merlin so much, like someone holding his hand.

Been really scratchy today. Got so much going on. My mind is unsettled and finding it difficult to concentrate and get anything properly done. Looking at those beautiful pics and reminding myself that the important stuff is getting done at least. We are all alive! Jesse home for two weeks on Friday. Cannot wait. Concentrate on the good stuff… 🤍🤍🤍

Thanks again Elli for the photographs ###x

🍁🍃🍂Seasons of mist and mellow fruitfulness indeed. A real pea souper this morning. I went to bed in a funk last night without eating supper, skipped breakfast as we were running about like chickens so by midday today I was ravenous! Such a lovely morning with the hubby. Nothing like horses, hounds, fresh air and good company to lift the spirits 🤍💭☁️

15 hours of driving through a tempest of a night but SO lovely to be here in the highlands again. I always forget how extraordinary it is here - whatever the weather 🌦️

The children did so well today. Very proud of them. Five miles on the hill across peat hags, bogs, burns, bracken and bog myrtle. Complete bliss but hard work. Sparky was a boss and made us grateful for every steady, protective stride that he took with little Pippin. And he carried the picnic too in his new, specifically made, baskets. The weather was mercurial, golden glowing sunshine then howling winds and rain. I loved every moment. When shafts of light hit the hill you feel closer to heaven. The colours. A dream really. 🌦️🤍✨
