Six months ago we helped Sad Dad Autumn release their first full album, The Great Dying, and we are really proud of it.

It’s a dark alternative folk concept album that follows a descent into hell. It draws from Greek Mythology, the stars, and the long gloomy rainy season of their hometown to explore themes of grief and dissociation. It was written and recorded by three teenage girls from West Seattle, and it is genuinely one of the most fully realized debut albums we’ve ever heard.

We don’t think albums are dead. At The Big Dark, we listen through albums constantly. Albums are a curated human experience that, like The Great Dying, take you on a journey start to finish that you can’t experience with algorithmic curation.

So grab your headphones, listen to a whole album (no shuffle) start to finish. Go buy a record or a CD. Keep music human. Maybe start with The Great Dying by Sad Dad Autumn. Out now on all platforms. Link in bio. 🖤

Drum Day is always exciting because it’s where the bones of the whole project are created. We track and suddenly get a glimpse of the final sound taking shape.

We record at our home where we have a modular recording space that captures great sound and keeps everyone close. For we tracked drums in one full day (for consistency and set up), then guitar, bass, and finally vocals.

The work ethic has brought to this EP is awesome. Prepared, dedicated and all in from day one. 🖤

We’ll keep sharing our process with you all and more on Chewing Gum’s debut EP soon!!! 🤘

P.S. Before drum day, Magen (label head & also a drummer) was up all night designing and sewing lightweight ceiling clouds for the perfect drum spot in the room. Feeling delirious while providing in room support was WORTH IT for that sound. Aren’t they pretty? 👀
