The Creative Asylum The Creative Asylum delivers weekly conversations with creative people of all stripes (musicians, actors, filmmakers, artists, cartoonists, etc.)

We explore attitudes, intentions and approaches around living authentically and keeping creativity alive. YOUR HOST:
Daniel House is the co-founder, bassists and primary songwriter for the Seattle proto-grunge outfit Skin Yard. He’s also the president and owner of C/Z Records, the indie record label that launched the careers of Melvins, Soundgarden, Built to Spill, The Gits, 7 Year Bitch and of course Skin Yard. Currently, he lives in San Diego where he’s finishing on his first book, “Words on Bone: Skin Yard and the Origins Of Grunge – 1985-1991.”

You know Patty Schemel. She was the drummer in Hole most notably, but she continued in different musical projects after Hole closed shop. She had a rough run with addiction and was in fact homeless for a period. She now works with women dealing with similar struggles on the streets of Los Angeles. The ultimate act of paying it forward, and the ultimate realization that giving back is one of the best rewards. I hope you enjoy this conversation with an old friend. Links in the comments below.

is (another one) of my favorite contemporary artists. Having the opportunity to have him as a guest in The Creative Asylum was a genuinely delight for me. THIS is one of those episodes that I strongly recommend you WATCH as opposed to just listen, since there is a TON on his fantastical trippy work edited throughout the conversation. I’m pretty psyched to be able to share this with you.
