Filiz Efe McKinney is a documentary filmmaker whose work sparks empathy and dialogue, guided by a vision for a more just and compassionate world. Rooted in her Turkish heritage, where old and new, East and West intersect, she focuses on cultivating a culture of inclusion by telling stories that challenge deep-seated biases. Filiz has directed the Anti-Bias Early Childhood Films series, which explo

res the role families and educators play in fostering anti-bias values. Families Embracing Anti-Bias Values (2024) raises the voices of families as they help their children develop positive social identities, embrace differences, and form meaningful connections. Its companion film, Reflecting on Anti-Bias Education in Action: The Early Years (2021), takes viewers into diverse classrooms, demonstrating teacher reflection on identity, context, and practice. The film earned a Northwest Regional Emmy® nomination for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and won the Silver Prize for Documentary Feature at the Social Justice Film Festival. Shaped by her multicultural experiences and education in communications and film, Filiz brings a heart-centered approach to filmmaking. She holds a Master of Communication in Digital Media, a Master of Arts in Communication Strategies and Public Relations, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Cinematography.

WE PAY REAL RENT! Many of you may have read that Northwest Film Forum was giving 2% of our proceeds to the Duwamish Tribe as of May 2021. After crunching the numbers and receiving our full reports, we are happy to say that our rolling start results in a first donation of $260.95 to Duwamish Tribal Services through Real Rent Duwamish

*** WHY GIVE? ***

Because we are located in Seattle, we are on the lands of the Coast Salish people -- specifically, the Duwamish Tribe. Donating is just one actionable step for us to recognize and give back to the natural lands and sovereignty which has been taken away from Native Americans all over the United States. *** HOW CAN YOU HELP?! ***

- Join us as an organization and give 2% of your proceeds too, just like our community partner Brave Sprout Productions is doing!

- Donate via Real Rent Duwamish and help support the tribe through monthly giving, as an individual. Any amount will do and it can automatically be deducted out of your account.

- Sign the petition on https://www.realrentduwamish.org/ to help the tribe get federal recognition -- and hence, access to significant funding sources and rights tribes that are unrecognized do not receive.
