Recently, I had the opportunity to join GSK’s campaign to watch The Mening-Itinerary starring and Ty Burrell with my fellow Ask2BSure moms.

The Mening-Itinerary takes viewers on a journey through everyday moments of parenting teens in real-world environments - like dorms, parties, and gyms - where teens live, gather, share space, and, through certain everyday behaviors, may share the bacteria that can cause meningococcal disease, known as meningitis.

Before sending Kelly off to college, I talked to her doctor and made sure she wasn’t missing any of the available vaccinations for meningitis. Upon meeting meningococcal disease survivors Jamie and John at the event, I learned that 1 in 5 survivors suffer from long-term consequences, including limb amputation, brain damage, and hearing loss.

Among teens and young adults, 16- to 23-year-olds have the highest rates of meningitis, so it’s important to be proactive and talk to your teen’s doctor about meningitis risk and vaccination.
