Known professionally as Sarah Marie Spectrum, I help people tell their stories, unleash their imagination, and embrace their dreams. I grew up with stories of strong women like Black Widow and epic adventures such as The Lord of the Rings which inspired me to fight for justice and myself. I am an advocate for embracing art to tell stories, break barriers, and create community. I hold a Bachelor of

Fine Arts in Digital Photography from Arizona State University and have been a pop-culture photojournalist for 10 years now. Storytelling keeps cultures alive, dares us to dream, and keeps records of our past when all else has ended. Storytelling is limitless in its borders.

I know I’m late to the party but I want to say a happy belated World Photography Day. 📸

I love photography so much. Ever since I was a little girl, the photographic arts have held a special place in my soul.

I love the science of it.

I love the history of it, ESPECIALLY of photographers who were women and photographers from different cultures. I love seeing through so many different eyes and always want to learn from experiences that are not mine.

I love the way holding a camera feels like home. I love the way I can experiment with lighting, colors, and texture.

I love collecting cameras and as many pictures, tintypes, cyantypes, and daguerreotypes of women and girls that I can find at antique stores and random shops around the world. Women and girls are so often lost to history and I want to keep their story alive.

I love the people and friends I’ve met along the way.

If I have ever been allowed the honor of photographing you over the years or collaborating with you on a creative photographic project, thank you. 💙

For me it’s conventions, cosplay, anime, airports/travel, sushi, reading, cats (especially my Silas Alucard), photography, tea, and video games to name a few.

Cosplay photography showed me what happens when people remember who they are.

The second someone steps into a character, their posture changes. The hesitation falls away.
They stand taller.
Their presence lands differently.
The body knows it’s allowed to be here.

Fantasy becomes a bridge, not an escape.
A way in.
A way back.

Behind every character lives something ancient and true: fury, tenderness, courage, longing, grief and somehow, by stepping into fantasy, people arrive closer to their soul.

Fantasy becomes a doorway. Armor becomes honesty. Masks reveal what daily life keeps hidden.

This work taught me that imagination heals.
That transformation isn’t escape, it’s revelation and truth. And by wearing another form, people uncover what’s always been theirs.
