Known professionally as Sarah Marie Spectrum, I help people tell their stories, unleash their imagination, and embrace their dreams. I grew up with stories of strong women like Black Widow and epic adventures such as The Lord of the Rings which inspired me to fight for justice and myself. I am an advocate for embracing art to tell stories, break barriers, and create community. I hold a Bachelor of

Fine Arts in Digital Photography from Arizona State University and have been a pop-culture photojournalist for 10 years now. Storytelling keeps cultures alive, dares us to dream, and keeps records of our past when all else has ended. Storytelling is limitless in its borders.

This is your feed pit stop from all of the chaos where we’re discussing our favorite things.

What fills you with joy? 💙

For me it’s conventions, cosplay, anime, airports/travel, sushi, reading, cats (especially my Silas Alucard), photography, tea, and video games to name a few.

Cosplay photography showed me what happens when people remember who they are.

The second someone steps into a character, their posture changes. The hesitation falls away.
They stand taller.
Their presence lands differently.
The body knows it’s allowed to be here.

Fantasy becomes a bridge, not an escape.
A way in.
A way back.

Behind every character lives something ancient and true: fury, tenderness, courage, longing, grief and somehow, by stepping into fantasy, people arrive closer to their soul.

Fantasy becomes a doorway. Armor becomes honesty. Masks reveal what daily life keeps hidden.

This work taught me that imagination heals.
That transformation isn’t escape, it’s revelation and truth. And by wearing another form, people uncover what’s always been theirs.

One of the things I love about Seattle is how we get lovely Fall colors here, especially in the Japanese gardens. A few weeks ago I took my camera and explored my favorite garden in Seattle. It's one of my favorite things to do every Fall and a great way to step away from my screen for a bit.

July is Disability Pride Month and I wanted to share the power of my lucky fin aka my Erbs Palsy. Erbs Palsy is also known as Brachial Plexus Injury. There are two main types: birth (my case) and then ones that happen due to various factors in life. (See pinned comment for more info)

At birth, I had nerves torn in my right shoulder/arm, causing me to have an arm that did not have any movement in it. It was limp until I was one of the kids in the 90s who had experimental nerve surgeries. I was either the 55th or 57th baby to have the first surgery in the US (mom can’t remember which) where they took nerves out of my leg and patched it into ones in my arm which gave me a limited range of movement. When I was older, I had several surgeries that helped expand my movement a little bit more. My entire right arm, hand, and fingers are smaller than my left, which is why I thought it was cool that I had a lucky fin like Nemo in Finding Nemo. It was even on the same side and everything! My scars are the atlas of who I am.

I can’t fully turn my arm over or raise it above my upper torso, but I have movement in my fingers and my arm so that I can hold my cameras my own way.

I’ve been disabled since birth. I’ve spent my entire life looking and thinking out of the box. How can we approach that differently? How can I achieve what I want or what I need to do? It’s all a part of me and I wouldn’t trade any of it.

I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to do everything the way everyone else does. Look outside of the box. 💙 Sometimes you find the coolest things out there.
