✨ Afghanistan in the 70s ✨
A time when Kabul was known as the Paris of Asia. Women studied in universities, worked in offices and could dress freely.
Today, more than 50 years later, the reality is very different.

This comparison does not seek to judge, but to reflect 🤔:
👉 How does a country's identity change when politics and religion transform its culture?

This time of year, I always take a quiet moment to remember Laika.
It’s been 67 years since she was sent into space. Not many speak of her now, but I think we should. Not because I’m a scientist, but because her story still matters.
Laika wasn’t just a dog in a rocket. She was a gentle soul full of trust. Her real name was Kudrjavka, meaning “curly” in Russian, but the world came to know her as Laika — the little barker. A stray from the streets of Moscow, she was chosen for her calm demeanor and resilience, as if hardship had somehow made her suited for a journey she could never return from.
On November 3, 1957, she was launched aboard Sputnik 2. The capsule had food, water, and padded walls—but no plan to bring her home. Some say she survived seven hours, others a few days. Either way, she spent her last moments alone, drifting silently while Earth slowly fell out of reach.
Laika circled the planet 2,570 times before the capsule burned up on re-entry the following April. She didn’t choose this. She didn’t volunteer to represent science, progress, or the space race. She was just a dog, a little creature seeking warmth and affection, yet she became a symbol.
That’s why I remember her. Not all progress is kind, and not every breakthrough is made the right way. Laika’s story reminds us to ask better questions — to consider who truly pays the price for our achievements.
