The constant issues had with his Sportster left him with the chopper blues. To make things right, Heath decided to start fresh with a shovelhead engine. The goal was to build something in a similar style as his last chopper. The results were promising. We met up with the young chopper enthusiast in nearby Follansbee, WV, to learn how the bright orange build came together. ⚡️ Check out the cover feature from issue No. 14 on our website (bio link).

“I seem to always find myself called to not-so-attractive bikes in stock form. It’s a challenge to try and find ways to recreate and change the lines of a motorcycle.” - Sam Tomer from his 1982 Yamaha XV750 cafe racer feature, now on our site and in issue No. 14

Stewart Owens of Delmont, PA grew up around bikes, watching motocross legends soar around Steel City Raceway. He got the chopper itch after visiting some East Coast shows, picked up a stock Sportster, and never turned back. The build is a great representation of a community helping to bring a bike to life. ⚡️ Check out the issue No. 14 feature on our website and sign up for our newsletter for more!

For issue Number 14, we met up with Tim Grabiak at his father’s garage, Jay’s Paint and Performance in Greensburg, to chat about his 1974 ironhead, the build process, and his interest in drag cars.

Let’s face it. The world is much different than it used to be. Working on motorcycles and being mechanically intelligent isn’t something that most kids take an interest in these days, so coming across this Ironhead build from Tim Grabiak helps restore a little faith. Tim’s father, Jay, has bee...

Our Story

We're a proud city. It hasn't always been easy, but through resiliency and grit, Pittsburgh has fought back to life, becoming a blueprint for success. This renaissance has been widely recognized, earning Pittsburgh the label of "Most Livable City in America" by a number of prominent publications.

Although the city has been changing at a rapid pace, motorcycles have always played an important role in our area. Many of us grew up riding in Western Pennsylvania, and that passion refuses to fade. The Steel City's resurgence is much like restoring an old bike. With enough determination, what starts as a box of dusty parts can become something truly beautiful.

Using our diverse creative backgrounds, we established Pittsburgh Moto to document custom bikes and builders from the Greater Pittsburgh area. Our hope is to fuel the local community by using our website and independent magazine as a source that showcases our region's motorcycle culture.

From professional builds to simple garage projects, we strive to cover as many custom choppers, trackers, cafe racers, scramblers, and bobbers that we can. This is about an appreciation of Pittsburgh, the love of motorcycles, and the individuals that put their blood, sweat, and tears into building these fascinating two-wheeled machines.
