My beef with Post-Modernism, and by extension Darwinism, Secularism, Neo-Platonism, Marxism, Communism and Socialism is that it portrays a “survival of the fittest” model of our entire world. Nature is indeed “red in tooth and claw” but civilization is the only means to which human beings are outside of that realm of nature. That civilization needs checks and balances, as well as proper sustainability with regards to a shared narrative. Without civilization, it is every man for himself. And when these systems break down, it brings about constant fragility and chaos. This is the same socio-political conundrum that we see shortly before the fall of the Western Roman Empire. More than just historical conscience, it’s in our best interest to understand how the science and the political understanding during that time failed to keep together an immensely powerful nation; lest we fall victim to history.
