Over the last three years since the fire that destroyed The Shepherd Argus offices, the Shepherd Area Historical Society has been collecting remaining copies of Argus from area residents, organizing them, and then working with CMU's Clarke Library to digitally preserved them. There are already several issues of The Shepherd Argus which can viewed on the Internet. On October 10, the Shepherd Bar and Restaurant will donate a percentage of its profits from meals served between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. to the Shepherd Area Historical Society's Shepherd Argus preservation project. The historical society currently needs to raise $15,000 for the project.

Later this month, I will be merging the Shepherd Journal page with the page for the Mid Michigan Journal. This is a change that was inevitable when I decided to go a little larger with a website that covered the central Michigan area. The Shepherd Journal’s mission will continue to live on in the Mid Michigan Journal’s website, where I will continue to report on events and news from the Shepherd community. [ 206 more words ]

Tonight, the Mid Michigan Journal is introducing a new feature called "What I learned." Fill out the following form (see the link below) and enter in something new that you learned recently. Could be a new fact, a time saving trick, information about an event, a little known knowledge about our community, anything.

It could be informational, or silly. For example, "Today I learned that water is wet."

The form also asks for a description of how you learned about the new information, either through the description of an anecdote, your background, or a reference to a source where it could be confirmed.

The best entries will be published on the MMJ website.

There are no words to adequately describe 09/11/2001. Many lives were lost that day at the hands of pure evil. That day they tried to break our resolve...but they failed. We were not separated by our differences, but united by the fact that somewhere in the RED-WHITE-BLUE...there is everyone of us!

WE REMEMBER and WE WILL NEVER FORGET!

Words to consider today from Mother Teresa....

People are often unreasonable, illogical and self centered;
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies; Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; Give the world the best you've got anyway.

How do you feel about self service kiosks in fast food restaurants? I heard that there is one in a McDonald's in Mount Pleasant now.

Are these a step forward or a step back for customer service?

What has been you experience with self service stations in the past? Inside grocery stories for example.
