General thoughts please

Looking for general information to help replacing/repairing this front deck/porch. This looks to be some slat (wall/floor) that isn’t the best to be used for outdoor use. Previous homeowner installed 2020? Been sealed once since, this is a high traffic area and other places closer to the elements are showing rot and water damage.

This is my partner’s home, bought 2021. I’m gonna mostly likely need to rip it all out and install something better suited.

Is there a technique that could be applied here to properly complete the end piece?

Best way to anchor the new 4x6?

So the brilliant previous home owner decided for one reason or another to change out the main post for this second floor deck. I'm looking to get all the materials together but i'm having trouble with how to secure the post to the concrete slab. You can see the original 4x6 post wasn't actually secured to the concrete with anything but I feel like that's either not right or just a bad idea in general. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a Simpson strong tie or equivalent with long enough sides that It'll clear the 6 inches of concrete so I can screw the base to the new post. None of the ones I could find online are tall enough to be anchored to the concrete in that slot but also tall enough to be screwed into my new 4x6 above the top of the slab there. Or I fb you have a better path in all ears!

Second question. It looks like they did 3 2x6's as that top cross bar. Should I cut out the top of the 4x6 so the one side continues up the side of the 2x6's or just cut it short at the bottom and then put a bracket on it?

Thanks all in advance!

Deck Extension

I have a contractor replacing rotted decking and extending it out 4’. This is how they’re handling the extension joists. I know nothing about building a deck, but putting all the force for these joists on the bolts/screws/HW that are holding the 12x8 to the 12x10 doesn’t seem like a great idea when you could just use another 12x10 and have that weight rest on the perpendicular support. Should I ask them to use 12x10 before they got any further? Also they’re not done adding hardware so there will be more, this is just current.

TIA!

Is this right?

There's not a bolt in sight except for to the house. I feel like it isn't as "sturdy" as they say it is. Am I wrong or is this the standard with only screws and nails throughout (even on the railing attached to the deck).

Deck Rebuild

I’m in the process of rebuilding my deck. I poured concrete footers and built a triple 2x8 beam underneath. The plan is to support the roof while I replace everything below. 6x6 will replace 4x4 posts and the 2x6 “rimboard” replaced with a triple 2x10 beam around the perimeter.

Is it okay to cantilever the edge of the roof like this or should I also use diagonal supports as well? The house jacks are screwed into the beam. I’m afraid the edge of the roof might sag even tho most of the weight is on the house jacks.

Also what braces/straps/brackets would you suggest to prevent the roof beam from moving. The leading edge of the 4x6 is cut at 12.5 degrees to match the slope of the rafters. The goal will be to replace the house jacks with about eight 4x4 posts resting on the triple beam. I wanna move them to the left side of the porch to make an identical roof support. Any tips or suggestions welcome before I set the weight of the roof on this 4x6 “beam”.

How would you side this deck?

The grade is going to be brought up to the bottom of lower joist so the concrete will be completely covered and we won't need a railing.

The contractor is proposing this vertical composite to finish the edge and keep critters out, but it doesn't really go with the siding or deck (which is TimberTech composite).

What other options are there?

What’s the best way to stiffen stringers up?

I’m currently adding a cement post with a beam under the stringers to help stiffen them up as they have a slight bounce when walking up them the span is pretty long. Besides adding support that way I’ve also read about adding other type of supports as well that can help. What other ways are there to stiffen things up besides the support beam I’m planning on adding directly under the stringers

Replacing Pond Deck

Inherited this when I purchased my property, the pond is down about 2-3ft currently.

Looks like the foundation is based on some debris and shoring. Doesn’t look like anything attaches the platform to the “foundation”, feels pretty solid so far but there is a noticeable lean on the non chair side.

I’d like to replace this, maybe make it slightly bigger to accommodate a small table of 4, and railings.

How would you go about this?

Thanks!

How does this look?

Refinishing my deck surface. First I had wire brushed all loose paint. Then I wanted to fill in some of the splitting in the boards so I am using dap weatherproof patching compound, currently in progress. Once finished I will sand/scrape loose material then repaint with the same paint (behr waterproofing stain & sealer).

Im curious if filling in cracks is a normal thing to do (I thought it would help the longevity of the paint) and if having a thin layer of this stuff over top will be a problem vs it just being in the cracks.
