We talked to (most of) the candidates for the upcoming August Primary Election.

Over the last month or so, The Osprey interviewed (most of) the 11 candidates for the three state legislative seats that represent Shoreline in Olympia. (There were complications, some more interesting than others.)

We talked about their priorities, who they are and why they’re putting themselves through this political progress, and tried to find the daylight between the many Democrats running for each seat.

Nikki Mahoney, board member of the Friends of Shoreline Library, sorts kids and young adult books ahead of the group’s twice-annual book sale.
The sale starts today — Friday, April 10 — with a members-only sale from 4 to 6 p.m., and continues this weekend, Saturday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., when they’ll let folks buy a bag for $5 and take home as many books as they can carry.

The Shoreline City Council is discussing school zone speed cameras in school zones tonight, with the first cameras planned for Meridian Park Elementary School.

The hope from proponents is that they'll slow down drivers traveling on 175th between Aurora and Interstate 5 — one of the busiest corridors in the city.

If approved, the first set of cameras, planned for Meridian Park Elementary, would start as early as January 2027

The center, which celebrated its 50th year in service in March and is older than the City of Shoreline itself, saw a record number of memberships in 2025: 1,216 as of November. The center has also served about 1,800 individual older adults, and had a total attendance of nearly 37,500 across all of its programs.

On Feb. 9, dozens of Shoreline residents made their way to City Council chambers, insisting that their elected leaders stand against the Trump administration’s federal immigration tactics in their city.

Two weeks later, the Shoreline City Council followed up by approving a resolution speaking to the city’s “role and responsibilities” regarding immigration enforcement in a unanimous vote.
