Book Review: Queen of Faces by Petra Lord
Our June book club read was Queen of Faces, and I was so excited to finally pick it up since it's been sitting on my shelf for months! 🙌
The premise is wild, in the best possible way. FMC Ana is trapped in a decaying male body in a world where the wealthy can buy new bodies and the poor is stuck with whatever they can afford. From page one, the story dives into themes of identity, privilege, class, and self-determination in a way that feels surprisingly deep for a YA fantasy.
The body-swapping magic adds so many layers to the story, and trust me when I say that not everyone is who they seem 👀. I loved watching Ana navigate a world where everything she believes is constantly being challenged.
But the real highlight for me was Ana's character growth. Watching her overcome impossible odds, question everything she knows, and grow into her confidence was incredibly satisfying.
And can we talk about the found family trope? 🥹 What starts as relationships built out of necessity slowly transforms into genuine loyalty, friendship, and support. My heart was so happy.
I also appreciated that the ending focused on setting up the next book rather than relying on a shocking last-minute twist. Needless to say, book two has already found its way onto my wishlist!
