What happens when a powerful politician has a secret worth killing for?

In 18th-century Scotland, Lady Rachel Grange discovered that her husband, James Erskine, Lord Grange, was having an affair—and allegedly involved with Jacobite plots against the British crown. Furious, Rachel threatened to expose what she knew.

Soon after, she vanished.

For 13 years, Rachel was secretly imprisoned on remote Scottish islands while her family searched for answers. Her husband reportedly told the world she had died, even staging a funeral while she was still alive. Isolated and forgotten, Rachel eventually died on the Isle of Skye.

Her story remained hidden for decades and has since become one of Scotland's most chilling historical mysteries.

🤯 Interesting bits from this episode:

• Rachel was moved between several remote islands to keep her location secret.
• Some of the islands were among the most isolated places in Britain.
• Her disappearance became one of the most infamous scandals of the Jacobite era.
• The truth only emerged years later through letters, witnesses, and historical investigations.

History isn't always found in textbooks. Sometimes it's stranger than fiction.

🚀 On This Day: June 16, 1963

History was made when Valentina Tereshkova launched aboard Vostok 6, becoming the first woman in space and the first woman to orbit Earth. 🌍

Launched from what is now Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, her mission lasted nearly three days and completed 48 orbits of Earth - giving Tereshkova more time in space than all of America's Mercury astronauts combined at that point.

When Vostok 6 returned on June 19, she parachuted safely to the ground, as early Soviet cosmonauts were required to do. Her pioneering mission made her an international icon and forever changed the history of human spaceflight. ✨

One reason tulips became such a valuable commodity in the 1600s wasn't just their beauty—it was their biology.

Tulip bulbs can survive for months without soil because they store the nutrients and energy needed to support future growth. This remarkable adaptation allows them to endure harsh winters, droughts, and long periods of transport.

Their durability made them easy to store, trade, and ship across Europe, helping fuel one of history's most famous economic bubbles.

Before cryptocurrency, before stocks, before modern financial markets, there were tulips.

During the Dutch Tulip Mania of the 1630s, rare bulbs with distinctive flaming patterns became incredibly valuable. Some sold for 100 guilders—worth roughly the same as four fat pigs or 1,000 pounds of cheese.

As demand grew, people experimented with unusual techniques in hopes of producing even rarer and more valuable flowers.

The result? One of the most famous speculative bubbles in history.
