At Arf & Wag, we’ve always believed that dogs aren’t just pets—they’re family. This all began as a simple, heartfelt idea back in Iowa: to use photography to help shelter dogs get noticed and find homes. We didn’t have a grand plan—just a deep love for animals and a desire to make a small difference. What started with a camera and a few local rescue sessions gradually grew into something more. Ove
r time, we found ourselves photographing beloved pets for families who cherished them just as much as we did. My husband Dillon and I poured our hearts into every session, and before long, what was once a side project became our full-time life’s work. But the turning point came after a trip to Cusco, Peru. We went there to better understand the street dog crisis, and what we saw stayed with us. So many animals—unseen, unwanted, and struggling just to survive. It was heartbreaking. And it made us realize that our little studio, as much as we loved it, wasn’t enough anymore. So, we made a leap. We sold nearly everything, packed up our lives (along with our three dogs—Napoleon, Maple, and Rosie—and our cat Gus), and moved to Valencia, Spain. From here, we started Paws Around the World—a journey to photograph dogs in different cities, capture the joy they bring, and share their stories with the world. Along the way, we co-founded Cusco Canine Rescue, a nonprofit dedicated to building a sanctuary in Peru for at-risk dogs. It’s a big dream. One that’s going to take time, heart, and a lot of help—but we’re committed to making it real. Through every portrait we take, every city we visit, and every connection we make, our mission stays the same: to celebrate the bond between people and their dogs, and to use that joy to fuel something much bigger. We’re not there yet—but with every photo, every subscriber, every shared moment—you’re helping us get one step closer. Thanks for being here.
