More content from their amazing Flickr Collection. This is the beautiful Rubidoux Drive-In theatre in 1979 in Rubidoux, California. It was opened in 1948 and could accommodate 730 cars. In 1983, two new screens were added and began hosting swap meets. The best part about this photo is that this drive-in is STILL OPEN, and is one of only four drive-ins still operating in California.

Finally got to visit the Circus World Museum✨ It’s surprisingly expansive, and even though they aren’t doing live shows in the Hipppdrome currently, it’s still packed with old pony floats, wagons, costumes, and everything you could possibly want to know about circus history 🤩 If you can’t make it to Baraboo, check out Episode 5 of Interstate Odyssey— all about the museum and history of the circus. 🤡✨

I'm in South Dakota right now, so of course I have to highlight some of the fabulously odd tourist offerings. Personally, I think South Dakota is the capital of roadside attractions, what with Wall Drug, Mount Rushmore, Reptile Gardens, Storybook Island, Jellystone Park.. the list goes on and on.

If you're looking for a deep dive into lots of photos of roadside treasures, look no further than the 's Roadside America collection on Flickr. It contains thousands of photos taken by John Marguleis (the godfather of roadside attraction photography) ranging from decrepid storefronts of formerly bustling towns to the colorful oddities that seem to be slowly disappearing from highways. Here are just a few of my favorites.

Another attraction along US-95 in southwest Nevada is the hauntingly beautiful Goldwell Open Air Museum. It’s filled with outdoor installations, including The Last Supper 1984 by Charles Albert Szukalski. It looks lovely during the day but as you can see at night against the backdrop of the Amargosa Desert it’s truly breathtaking.

“The One With the Longaberger Product Placement”
This took some digging, but after scouring YouTube clips from later seasons of Friends, I finally found it. Sitting on the table amongst all of the wedding gifts is a Longaberger basket. At the end of their reign, the Longaberger Company sought a new marketing direction— suddenly the Maplewood vessels were popping up strategically amongst the backdrop of shows like Judging Amy, Hope & Faith, Everybody Loves Raymond, and of course, Friends. It wasn’t nearly enough to save them, though, with basket sales tanking in the early aughts. Episode 9 is out now and all about why Longaberger made the move to Hollywood, and how these unassuming baskets ended up at the Oscars.
