π₯ NATIONAL VAT AWARENESS CAMPAIGN.
Flomo Theater Production Incorporated, in partnership with the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), alongside Geez Liberia (Legend), recording artist Perimeter, and Kortor Barry Comedy has officially launched the National VAT Awareness Campaign in Buchanan.
Liberia is transitioning to a 15% Value Added Tax (VAT) system, which will officially take effect on January 1, 2027. As part of the transition process, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) has been temporarily adjusted to 13%. Upon implementation, VAT will fully replace the GST system.
π VAT Registration Period
β’ Opening Date: July 1, 2026
β’ Closing Date: December 31, 2026
π Who Must Register?
Businesses operating in Liberia with an annual turnover threshold of US$20,000 or its equivalent in Liberian Dollars (LRD) are required to register for VAT.
π Where to Register?
Eligible businesses can complete their VAT registration through the official website of the Liberia Revenue Authority.
π How VAT Works
Unlike a traditional retail sales tax, VAT is a multi-stage tax that is applied throughout the production and distribution process. Businesses collect VAT on sales and may claim credits for VAT paid on eligible business purchases, ensuring that the tax is ultimately borne by the final consumer.
π Benefits of VAT
β
Broadens the national tax base
β
Increases domestic revenue generation
β
Supports national development projects
β
Contributes to improved roads, education, healthcare, and other essential public services
β

This awareness campaign is intended to educate citizens and businesses across Liberia on the importance, procedures, and benefits of the VAT system ahead of its implementation in 2027.
