At the Cinch Playoffs Governor’s Cup, competitors face the ultimate pressure — their shot at qualifying for the National Finals Rodeo. For Katy Lucas, standing beside them with a mic isn’t just “doing a job.” It’s an honor.
“They put the work in, I want to work hard to help them explain to everyone what it took to get there.”
That’s what makes Katy more than a broadcaster. She’s lived rodeo — from competing herself, to wearing the crown as Miss Rodeo Canada, to now becoming one of the most recognizable voices on the Cowboy Channel.
Through it all, one thing has never changed: her deep love for the sport and her mission to share the unbelievable stories of its athletes.
“These are the stories I grew up hearing about around the dinner table — now I get to share them with more people.”
But behind the poise on air, Katy admits there’s a weight that comes with the work. Striving for perfection — the right facts, the right delivery, guiding athletes in high-pressure interviews — it’s a pressure she’s still learning to balance.
That honesty is what makes her so authentic. She’s not just reporting rodeo; she’s carrying its stories forward with grit, grace, and a unique voice the sport needs.
📍 Sioux Falls has had the privilege of watching Katy in action this weekend, and it’s clear: her work resonates just as much as the rides themselves.
Katy’s presence is undeniable. She carries herself with a glow that elevates not just the sport, but the people within it. Watching her work was a reminder that storytelling is about more than coverage — it’s about connection
