Smithtown East sophomore honored with Distinguished Youth Award 🏆📚

Kudos to Louis Schmettan Jr.! The Smithtown High School East sophomore has been honored with the Distinguished Youth Award and recognized by the Suffolk County Legislature. He is the only student in the county's 13th Legislative District to receive the prestigious award in 2026

To earn the award, Louis visited and wrote about 15 Suffolk County parks and logged more than 100 hours on a personal development project. His project? Turning his love of writing into two novels.

Louis said he's hoping to get both novels published this year. Stay tuned, Smithtown — we may have a published author in our midst soon. 👏
