We’re so thankful we get to spend our days with these cuties.

Here’s to all the dogs who make life so much better!

Happy National Dog Day! 🧡🐾

We tend to think learning happens when we intentionally train.

Grab the leash.

Get the treats.

Practice the command.

But your dog is learning during all the little moments in between too.

Your dog brings you a toy and repeatedly shoves it into your lap.

Eventually, you throw it.

They jump when you come home.

They get attention.

They pull toward something they want.

Eventually, they reach it.

They bark because they want something.

Someone responds.

Nobody intentionally sat down and taught those behaviors.

But from the dog’s perspective, they worked.

And when a behavior consistently gets a dog something they want, there’s a pretty good reason to try it again.

So when you’re wondering why your dog keeps doing something, don’t only look at the behavior.

Ask yourself:

What usually happens immediately afterward?

Sometimes that’s where you’ll find the reason it keeps happening. 🐾

Vacation according to my dogs looks suspiciously similar to a normal workday…and you know what?

I don’t mind! 🧡🐾

Some days with your dog make you feel like everything is finally coming together.

The walk was great.

They listened.

Something you’ve been working on finally clicked.

Then the next day?

It’s like somebody swapped dogs overnight.

They’re distracted.

They’re pulling.

Something they did perfectly yesterday suddenly feels hard again.

It’s easy to look at that one day and think you’re going backwards.

But training isn’t measured by one walk, one reaction, or one difficult afternoon.

Look at the bigger picture.

Maybe your dog still reacted, but recovered faster.

Maybe they needed help, but less than they used to.

Maybe something that happened ten times a few months ago only happened twice today.

Progress doesn’t always mean the struggle completely disappears.

Sometimes it happens less often.

Sometimes it lasts less time.

Sometimes your dog recovers faster.

Sometimes you simply know how to handle it better than you did before.

Those things count too.

One difficult day is information.

It isn’t the entire story. 🐾

Leo had a choice here.

Kate was closer but I was the one who called him.

You can see that little hesitation as he passes her, and then he keeps coming back to me.

That’s what I want to see. Not just a dog coming when called but making the choice to come to the person who called him when there’s another option right there.

Well done, Leo!! 🐾🧡
