Beginning on May 17, those 18 or older will need a REAL ID or other identification accepted by the TSA to fly even within the country as well as enter many government buildings.

As of January 2024, only about 56 percent of people in the U.S. had driver's licenses and ID cards that are REAL ID-compliant.​
