Emily,
While I was intrigued by your commentary, and totally agree with your assessment to read scripture in context, I was disappointed you did not mention seeking the Holy Spirit for revelation.
We are no more or less than Paul, who "did not seek man, but learned from Jesus by revelation". I am an example of one who sought the Holy Spirit for revelation of the WORD of God not twisted scripture from the Church of Agenda.
I have little to no idea where God's Word is in the modern scripture (or any), but by revelation. To me it's a mystery why people miss the obvious, even the great preachers in history.
To paraphrase Jesus own words from John "The Holy Spirit will testify of Me, and bring to remembrance ALL things that I said"...... I have 100% faith in that. And because I sought out the Holy Spirit and the 9 gifts for at least a year with ALL my heart before I was filled, I now partake with the Holy Spirit (as quoted by Paul in Hebrews when he admonished the people; "You all should be teachers by now".
So when James says "Faith without works is dead", which is used as condemnation by the church for failure to bake cookies or give, give, and give...... he is referring to the Words of Jesus, "The Christ". "The WORKS that I do, GREATER works than these shall you do"!!!
So where is the POWER of God in the church? Why aren't Christians "healing the sick, cleansing the l***r, and raising the dead". Paul agrees saying "I did not come to you with persuasive words, but by demonstrations of the Holy Spirit and POWER!! Where is the POWER in the church? It's His body, not a building whose foundation is built on sand.
Jesus Himself said "which is easier to say/see; your sins are forgiven or rise up and walk?"? Jesus continued; "so that you know I have POWER upon earth to forgive sin, I say rise up and walk".
The problem with 99% of Christians, they neither know, or seek to know, the Holy Spirit. You CANNOT say you have a relationship with Jesus when one does not know the Holy Spirit..... It is impossible.
As to the Jeremiah 29:11, all you say may be true in a literal sense. But if you looked at everything written as literal, you would MISS everything. Christ Himself said to his disciples "you don't understand spiritual things so I'll speak in parables"..... Everything said has a spiritual meaning behind the spiritual paradox of an "All Knowing God". So respectfully, I disagree. God indeed KNOWS what He thinks of each of us, "A Future and a HOPE".... Even Prosper is not HIS thoughts or ways, prosper could mean death of mortal body for a better future.
Do I know 100% of everything I wrote?? Well that would be rediculous, I'm not God. But because I commune with the Holy Spirit, I have much more than most BECAUSE like David..... I seek Him with my whole heart. And even that is "in part", for we are never given whole.
Let's walk through five of the most commonly twisted Scriptures and why it’s important to interpret them correctly.
