1939 Lincoln Zephyr Coupe

Streamlined aerodynamic styling distinguished this luxury automobile when it debuted in late 1935 as a 1936 model. The Lincoln Zephyr featured semi-unitized construction that reduced weight while improving structural rigidity, setting it apart from competitors using traditional body-on-frame methods.

Designed by E.T. "Bob" Gregorie, the car's sleek profile influenced automotive design throughout the late 1930s. Early models featured a distinctive tall grille, but 1939 brought twin butterfly-shaped grilles with vertical bars, along with concealed running boards.

The interior showcased Art Deco styling with a central console rising from the floor and an impressive gauge cluster containing speedometer, temperature, fuel, oil, and battery indicators.

Power came from a 267-cubic-inch V12 L-head engine producing 110 horsepower at 3,900 RPM, paired with a 3-speed manual transmission. Hydraulic brakes replaced the earlier cable-activated system for 1939.

The Zephyr successfully competed against the Packard 120 and Chrysler Imperial, helping revitalize Lincoln's sales during the Depression era.

1953 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster

Only 300 examples were built in the first year of Corvette production, each finished exclusively in Polo White with a Sportsman Red interior and black soft top.

That uniformity reflected the car's rushed path to market: introduced as a GM Motorama show car in January 1953, it moved into production in Flint just months later, with Chevrolet choosing fiberglass bodywork specifically to avoid the time and expense required to tool up for stamped steel. The result was a car assembled largely by hand.

The drivetrain was entirely conventional for the period. Power came from the 235 CI "Blue Flame" inline-six fitted with three Carter side-draft carburetors and rated at 150 horsepower (SAE gross), routed through a two-speed Powerglide automatic (a manual gearbox was not yet available).

Critics were quick to point out the gap between the car's sporting appearance and its modest mechanical specification.

At $3,498 base, the Corvette sat in an awkward commercial position, and its future was far from certain through those first model years.

The fiberglass construction, the hand-assembly, and the single color combination give first-year cars a character distinct from anything that followed, and their small production run has made them among the most closely studied of all postwar American automobiles.

1956 Imperial Crown Limousine

As Chrysler's final factory-built limousine produced in Detroit, the 1956 Imperial Crown Limousine marked the end of an important chapter in American luxury automotive history before production shifted overseas to Italian coachbuilder Ghia in 1957.

Only 226 of these eight-passenger limousines were manufactured, making them extraordinarily rare among luxury vehicles.

The forward-looking styling included the distinctive egg-crate grille and gun-sight taillights that defined the Imperial brand. Color choices were limited to dark green, dark blue, maroon, or black, with wire wheels as the only available option.

Power came from Chrysler's 354-cubic-inch Hemi V8 engine producing 280 horsepower, paired with the innovative PowerFlite pushbutton automatic transmission.

Built on a 150-inch wheelbase (17 inches longer than standard Imperials), these limousines featured seating for eight with three in front, three in rear, and two on fold-down jump seats.

1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

Back when luxury and muscle shared the same driveway. Long hood, smooth body lines, and that effortless cool the Cutlass carried everywhere it went. This was the kind of car you took to prom on Friday and cruised the strip in on Saturday.

Soft ride, strong V8, chrome shining under the street lights. The 72 Cutlass Supreme was style, comfort, and attitude all in one package.
