Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) is important because it uplifts and celebrates the lives, achievements, and resilience of transgender and nonbinary people while raising awareness about the challenges they face.

Visibility fosters understanding, combats stereotypes, and promotes acceptance, helping to create a world where trans people can live openly and safely. It also provides representation and encouragement for those who may be struggling with their identity, reminding them they are not alone. By highlighting trans voices and advocating for equal rights, TDOV helps push for meaningful change in society.

South Haven LGBTQ+ Advocacy’s Commitment to Full Inclusion:

At South Haven LGBTQ+ Advocacy, our mission is to advocate for and protect the entire LGBTQ+ community by raising awareness, increasing visibility, and creating affirming safe spaces. As a nonprofit, we remain steadfast in upholding our mission while making all decisions.

Recent policies attempting to reduce representation to only “LGB” are deliberate efforts to erase and harm our trans, nonbinary, q***r, and questioning siblings. Let us be clear: there is no "LGB" without the "T," nor will we stand for the exclusion of any part of our community. Our name—LGBTQ+—reflects our unwavering commitment to supporting and uplifting every person who identifies or is questioning their place within the q***r community.

We recognize that some organizations, due to reliance on government funding, may feel pressured to conform to exclusionary policies. However, we will never compromise on inclusion. If individuals or organizations object to our commitment to full equality, we ask that they seek to understand this: we will not leave anyone behind.

To our sponsors, donors, vendors, clients, and volunteers, this is our stance. We welcome and honor all forms of support, including anonymous donations for those who prefer privacy. Our organization stands in solidarity with our q***r, trans, BIPOC, Latino, and allied communities, working together to build a safer, more inclusive, and more understanding South Haven.

As Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. so powerfully stated:
"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly."

A statement from South Haven's Democrat State Representative Joey Andrews

"House Resolution No. 28, condemning the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Obergefell v. Hodges, is a harmful and hateful attack on LGBTQ+ Michiganders—I won’t stand for it. Love is love, and it’s not partisan.

This is a ridiculous distraction from the real issues Michiganders face. I’m ready to focus on supporting working families and building stronger communities."
