According to an old legend, there once existed a French city in the Middle Ages where wives followed a very unusual custom. Every morning, they would slip a tiny dose of poison into the breakfast of their husbands. Later in the evening, when the men returned home, the wives would secretly serve them the antidote.

The reason? It wasn’t to harm them, but rather to ensure loyalty. If the husband stayed away from home for too long, the antidote would be delayed. By nightfall, he would begin to feel unwell—headaches, nausea, weakness, even shortness of breath. But the moment he returned home, his wife would unknowingly cure him with the antidote, and within minutes he would feel relief.

This strange cycle created a powerful illusion: men began to believe that being away from home brought pain, while returning to their wives brought comfort and life itself. As a result, husbands grew deeply attached to their homes and more faithful to their marriages.

What this legend reminds us is that throughout history, people have devised the most unusual—and sometimes unsettling—ways to maintain love, loyalty, and control within relationships.

King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II writes:

Pictures:

In profound solidarity and sympathy, His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, Ga Mantse, sends a delegation to Kumasi to join His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the entire Asanteman in mourning during the final funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III. Her reign was marked by wisdom, dignity, and devoted service to the Ashanti Kingdom, and her legacy shall forever be remembered with honour. May the Almighty grant her peaceful rest, and may Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Royal Family, and the people of Asanteman be strengthened and comforted in this solemn period of mourning.

This beautiful monument is called "Baanmu" located in Kumasi Breman.

It's dedicated for the burial of Asante Great Kings and Queens. And tonight will be the final destination of Asantehemaa.
It's alledgedly almost all the kings are embalmed and mummified.
