*Labour Minister pays on the spot visit to Sierra Leone Bottling Company, George Brook- Freetown*

In a bid to promote employees' rights and to further protect the interests of the Employers through on the spot workplace visit, the Honourable Minister, Mr. Mohamed Rahman Swaray, has hit the ground running, January 2025.

The Minister and his team of Senior Labour officials visited the Sierra Leone Bottling Company, which now partners with GVR Bottlers Company, established in 2022 as a beverage manufacturing company mainly to produce quality non-alcoholic drinks.

In his engagement with management, the Honourable Minister reassured management of the government's commitment to promote workers right and to support businesses and industries by complimenting H. E. President Julius Maada Bio's vision of creating 500,000 jobs.

He further drew the attention of management to the newly enacted labour laws; Employment Act 2023, Work Permit Act, Industrial Relations and Trade Union Act, among others.

Minister Swaray emphasised the importance of implementing all health and safety provisions in the workplace.

The Business Development Manager, Mr. Hennrey Du Plessis, took the Minister and his team through the operations of the company and assured that, as a company, they will abide by the employment laws of the country.

The visit was climaxed with a tour of the refurbished facility.

SLPP NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING: ADOPTING A TIMETABLE FOR LOWER-LEVEL ELECTIONS, NATIONAL POSITIONS, AND REAFFIRMING PARTY UNITY

The SLPP National Executive Council (NEC) meeting was called to order by the National Secretary General, Umaru Koroma Esq. The session commenced with opening statements from the National Chairman, setting the tone for a productive and focused gathering. This was followed by a statement from the Deputy National Leader, the Honorable Vice President, who emphasized the significance of the meeting and its objectives.

During his remarks, the Honorable Vice President delivered a message of hope and unity. He expressed optimism about the future, declaring that 2025 and 2026 will be years of transformation as his boss, the party leader, is putting all strategies in place to ensure this becomes a reality. The Vice President emphasized the importance of building a strong and solid party, achievable only through free and fair elections and ensuring that the process is conscientious by electing popular candidates who truly represent the will of the people.

Additionally, he reassured members of the party’s commitment to grassroots support, stating that he is going to start engaging appointees in order to ensure they support SLPP members from the regional level down to the zones. β€œOur strength lies in unity and fairness. Let us work together to build a stronger party, transform our nation, and ensure that no one is left behind,” he remarked.

The following timetable was adopted:

1. 18th January 2025 - NEC meeting to finalize guidelines, dates, and venues for the Women’s and Young Generation Conferences.
2. 8th February 2025 - Sectional/Zonal elections across the country.
3. 15th February 2025 - Chiefdom elections nationwide.
4. 22nd February 2025 - Constituency executive elections and all Students Chapters Elections.
5. 1st March 2025 - District executive elections.
6. 8th March 2025 - Regional executive elections.
7. 15th March 2025 - National Young Generation Conference and elections (proposed venue: Bo City).
8. 22nd March 2025 - National Women’s Council elections (proposed venue: Pujehun).
9. 19th April 2025 - NEC meeting to validate elected delegates and publish the delegate list, as required by the Supreme Court ruling.
10. 23rd–24th May 2025 - National Delegates Conference to elect the remaining National Executive members, including national positions (proposed venue: Kenema City).

The Vice President’s inspiring remarks and commitment to inclusivity, fairness, and transformation reflect the SLPP’s dedication to unity, progress, and effective leadership at all levels.
