🚦 Why Does Your Car Stall at a Red Light? 🚗❌
If your car shuts off when you stop or while idling, something isn’t working properly. Here are the most common causes:
⚠️ 1. Dirty or Faulty Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve
The IAC valve regulates engine speed at idle. If it fails, the engine can’t maintain steady RPMs and may stall.
⚠️ 2. Dirty Throttle Body
Carbon buildup restricts airflow and causes unstable idling.
⚠️ 3. Bad MAF or MAP Sensor
If the engine isn’t getting the correct air-fuel mixture, it can stall when RPM drops.
⚠️ 4. Weak Fuel Pump or Clogged Fuel Filter
Low fuel pressure = unstable engine performance.
⚠️ 5. Worn Spark Plugs or Ignition Coils
Misfires are more noticeable at idle and can cause stalling.
⚠️ 6. Weak Battery or Alternator
If voltage drops too low, the engine may shut off when you stop.
💡 Mechanic Tip:
If the car only stalls when you turn on the A/C or turn the steering wheel, it could be an idle compensation issue.
