Due to the winter storm warning in effect for our area, all Fairfax County public schools and offices will be closed Wednesday, February. 20, 2019 (Condition 1). The following activities in schools and on school grounds are canceled:
• extracurricular activities
• interscholastic contests
• team practices
• field trips
• middle school after-school programs
• professional learning and training courses
• adult and community education classes
• recreation programs and community use by outside groups not affiliated with FCPS
School age child care (SACC) centers are closed.

Major Winter storm on the way for Tuesday night and Wednesday. Biggest question is how much snow before it switches to sleet...can we get a good thump before it switches. The 00z NAM(high resolution) is off to a good start....gives a major snowfall before sleet. A ton of frozen precipitation overall. This could be the most disruptive storm of the season. But because its not a pure snowstorm and there will be mix/change involved...cant really give a snow forecast till probably tomorrow night. But I would expect that all schools will close Wednesday(famous last words). This map shows the classic Cold Air Daming Wedge. Had we had more blocking(ie-NAO)...this could of been a historical event:(

Conditions will be reassessed early tomorrow morning to determine if operating status will need to be changed and an announcement will be made by 6:00 a.m.
• Morning preschool (special education) classes are canceled.
• Afternoon preschool classes start on their regular schedule.
• Full-day preschool (special education) and Family and Early Childhood Education Program/Head Start classes start two hours later than the regular schedule.
