TIME IS RUNNING OUT.

And I mean this in two ways.

The first you've heard me say before- your tapes and home media are degrading and this is absolutely true. I just completed two orders that had several tapes so degraded that they couldn't be saved. Baby milestones, holidays, family get togethers, all lost. DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOUR MEMORIES!

The second may be a little less obvious, and maybe even a little surprising- but I'm already starting to think about HOLIDAY orders. Those who've had their media digitized will tell you- since analog media runs in real time, it takes TIME. There are no shortcuts to this process. And if you've got a box like the one below, it could take awhile. But trust me (and all clients and my 100% recommendation rating)- THE WAIT IS WORTH IT. And they make INCREDIBLE holiday gifts (and usually lead to quite a few happy tears).

Preserve your memories and history for future generations, and maybe start to knock out your holiday shopping in the process. If you've got a box like the one below, it's going to take some time, SO DO NOT LET YOUR MEMORIES AND HISTORY DEGRADE TO THE POINT THAT THEY CAN NOT BE SAVED! This is heartbreaking.

I was at a thrift shop looking for some new decks to add to my equipment. Inside a box containing an old slide projector was a box of slides- with the owners name still on it.

Now true enough- I don't know anything about these. But I can't help but wonder if they were just given away; if some family member thought "these were X's. We can just toss them."

As a father, husband, uncle, brother and son, it would tear me if these moments- moments that meant something significant to our family and its growth (so much so that it had to be recorded)- were "just tossed" aside by my family without being preserved, that our recorded history was donated to some random person while forgotten by our own family.

I often talk about seeing your children as babies again- but not enough do I mention a chance to see and hear loved family and friends who have long passed from this world. This history and these memories exist to keep these family members around long after they're gone. Please honor them and make sure those records, history and memories stay alive. And maybe- just maybe- your great grandchildren (and beyond) will know a piece of their great-great-great grandparents.

Deceptive practices

If there's one thing that drives me up a wall, it's deceptive practices and hidden fees. I recently was asked about a job, and, as is very common, the prospective client told me they wanted to keep their tapes local so they wouldn't get lost. They also informed me they were also looking at one of the "big name" companies that operated locally. I quickly realized that they weren't ACTUALLY local- they just had a local drop off location. Original media was still sent to another location for the digitization process.

When I digitize your media, everything is done by me, in house. I'd rather take a little bit longer and know that your media is secure, and that you'll be given a quality result, than risk losing everything.

And sure, some places might be cheaper- initially. Many places will charge additional fees for hosting and downloads, and other additional fees that you are not notified of. I try to keep all costs upfront- and to notify you of any costs (however few) that may be added on later at your choosing.

URGENT MESSAGE.

Let's talk MiniDVD.

I remember when DVD was the craze- we quickly wondered when we would be recording on DVD.

The time came a few years later- but memory cards followed soon behind.

After the introduction of memory cards, most realized why MiniDVD didn't last long- you couldn't just pop the disc out and watch it elsewhere. To this day, most are unaware that there was an extra step needed called FINALIZING. And this can only be done with the model camcorder used to record the video onto the MiniDVD.

If you have MiniDVD discs, and you still have that original camera, it is IMPERATIVE that you get that footage off those discs. If the camera breaks or you get rid of it or is otherwise unusable or unavailable, and you don't know the model, there's a good chance you those videos could be (or are) gone... forever.

Don't take that risk.
