Especially when the outside of the frog doesn’t look dramatic.

The infection may extend into the central sulcus, where a narrow or deep crevice can hold moisture and debris. 💧🦠

🚩 Things to watch for:
🖤 Dark discharge
👃 Foul odor
😣 Tenderness
⚠️ A deep split or crevice

Knowing where to place your fingers—and what is normal for that individual horse—gives you a useful comparison when something changes. 📍

🖐️ Practice when your horse is comfortable and quiet, compare both sides, and notice whether the pulse is:
🔹 Difficult to find
🔹 Easy to feel
🔹 Different from side to side ↔️

⚠️ A stronger digital pulse can accompany inflammation or pain in the foot, but it is one observation—not a diagnosis. 🩺

If it appears with concerning heat, lameness, stance, or other clinical signs, contact your veterinarian. 📞🐴

🦶🐴 HOOF DISTORTION IS INFORMATION, NOT JUST AN UGLY SHAPE.

Hoof distortion is not simply an ugly shape. It is the hoof capsule’s response to how the foot has been loaded over time. ⚖️

Uneven loading can show up as:
🔹 Flare
🔹 Mismatched heel height
🔹 Wall shape that no longer follows the pastern
🔹 One side of the hoof appearing less developed than the other

HOW DO YOU QUALIFY?

This one is all about consistency.

Complete 11 of the 13 Challenge weeks by doing BOTH:

✔️ Complete at least one qualifying activity from that week in the Challenge Hub
✔️ Complete at least one of that week’s qualifying activities in The Horse Concierge app

That’s it.

You don’t have to win the week. You don’t have to stay at the top of the leaderboard. And you don’t have to have a perfect 13 weeks.

Miss something? Catch-up counts. Qualifying activities can be completed after a week closes, with the exception: GPS activities must be completed during the applicable week and cannot be added retroactively and the Weds bonuses close each Sunday.

The goal of this Challenge has always been bigger than points. It’s about learning something, applying it with your own horse, and building habits that help you become a more informed and intentional horse owner.

Conformation terms get thrown around constantly, but the useful question isn’t whether a horse matches an ideal drawing. 📐🐎

The better question is: How might the way this horse is built affect the way forces move through the body over time? ⚖️💭

That’s what our Challenge participants are exploring today with The Equine Institute 📚🐴 — then they’re taking four current conformation photos of their own horses 📸 so they can apply the lesson to a real horse they know and observe. 👀❤️
