A criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court, based on an investigation by the Sheldon Police Department, alleges that 67-year-old Kimberly Pedersen of Paullina is accused of financially exploiting an older individual.

According to the complaint, Pedersen is alleged to have used the victim’s bank account without permission. The victim is described in court documents as an older adult with cognitive impairment. Authorities further allege that more than $18,500 was taken or spent from the victim’s funds.

Pedersen is charged with First-Degree Theft and Ongoing Criminal Conduct, both class B felonies. She also faces additional charges including Financial Exploitation of a Dependent Adult (class C felony) and Nonsupport of a Dependent Adult (class D felony). If convicted on all counts, court records indicate she could face significant prison time.

Court records show a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19. Pedersen was booked into the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar and later released the same day after posting bond.
