I walked out of Tucker Middleton’s bedroom seven years ago, leaving him hurt and angry. Now I need his help; the only way I can get it, is to make him think I want him back. The only problem is we have silently vowed to hate one another for the rest of our lives. In order to get Tucker to help me....

Shark Heart | Emily Habeck ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

For Lewis and Wren, their first year of marriage is also their last. A few weeks after their wedding, Lewis receives a rare diagnosis. He will retain most of his consciousness, memories, and intellect, but his physical body will gradually turn into a great white shark. As Lewis develops the features and impulses of one of the most predatory creatures in the ocean, his complicated artist’s heart struggles to make peace with his unfulfilled dreams.

At first, Wren internally resists her husband’s fate. Is there a way for them to be together after Lewis changes? Then, a glimpse of Lewis’s developing carnivorous nature activates long-repressed memories for Wren, whose story vacillates between her childhood living on a houseboat in Oklahoma, her time with her college ex-girlfriend, and her unusual friendship with a woman pregnant with twin birds. Woven throughout this “heart-wringing” (Adam Roberts, internationally bestselling author of Salt) novel is the story of Wren’s mother, Angela, who becomes pregnant with Wren at fifteen in an abusive relationship amidst her parents’ crumbling marriage. In the present, all of Wren’s grief eventually collides, and she is forced to make an impossible choice.

A sweeping love story that is at once lyrical and funny, airy and visceral, Shark Heart is an unforgettable, gorgeous novel about life’s perennial questions, the fragility of memories, finding joy amidst grief, and creating a meaningful life. This daring debut marks the arrival of a wildly talented new writer abounding with originality, humor, and heart.

The premise of this book is certainly eye-catching. However, it got off to a slow start for me. While the story begins from Lewis's point of view, it ends with Wren at the center of attention. The further I read, the more I connected to the events. Wren and Lewis have a heartbreaking road ahead, and it is actually Wren's past that proves to be the most interesting part of the book.

I don't want to spoil the book, and I do recommend reading it for its creative plot. It wasn't my favorite book, but I will absolutely follow Emily Habeck to read her next effort. The title and cover are beautiful and meaningful to the story.

This time last year, I intended to modify this group, opening it up to all genres and authors-- then cancer happened. I survived endometrial cancer, and I'm finally healed enough to focus on my love of literature again.

I have also missed interacting with the indie author community. Joining Street Teams and creating friendships with other book enthusiasts, sharing exciting stories by new authors, is such a joy.

I just wanted to let you know that you'll see more from me. I have a slew of books I've read that I will be highlighting very soon.

If you have an upcoming release, email [email protected]; I'd love to help spread the word.
