Curious what happened with all those elections complaints in Arena last year? 🗳️

The Village of Arena has been fairly quiet the past year, doing damage control, fixing messes and doing the often quiet, boring work of governing.

That boring, quiet, slow governing comes in other forms as well, as the Wisconsin Elections Commission finally ruled on one of the election complaints from last spring's election — and it ruled that the ballot order was unlawful.

Elections Commission rules Arena 2025 Spring Election was conducted with unlawful ballot order for village trustees

The Wisconsin Elections Commission ruled that the Village of Arena’s April 1, 2025, trustee ballot was unlawfully arranged due to former Clerk DaNean Naeger’s failure to conduct a required second drawing after the primary. The ruling followed election complaints and resolved one of several similar cases against Naeger, who resigned amidst the controversy.

The district banned cell phones? What's that about property taxes?

What has Valley Sentinel been up to?

Much like the Helena Lake sign between Arena and Spring Green recently, we were under water — honestly, still are.

We’ve been largely quiet for some months. Out of health, out of care, out of necessity. No excuse we could offer would cover the poor communication on our part — so we won’t try to make one. We’re sorry. However, we can offer some context.

Like the Helena Lake sign, we have been underwater. The newspaper has been quiet due to health and operational challenges, but plans to re-tool and engage the community. Ongoing updates will be provided online, with hopes to resume print editions and newsletters as efforts progress. Community suppor...
