Tony Rice, guitarist who brought a touch of jazz to bluegrass, dies at 69

What a gentleman he was. Bias Studios was honored to work with Tony on over a dozen projects, one of which won a Grammy - The New South - Ricky Skaggs, Jerry Douglas, Tony Rice, J.D. Crowe, Todd Phillips - 1983 Best Country Instrumental Performance "Fireball." The last time he was in - 2006 - he told us Bias was his home base for studios. When Tony was in the house, there was always great music and a calm, happy vibe. Rest in Peace, Tony.

He explored “unexpected, and sometimes startling” musical paths in broadening the scope of the genre.

A D.C. Dream Day with the District’s go-to singer for the national anthem

For their pre-game renditions of The Star Spangled Banner, DC sports teams have a go-to singer named Dwight Clyde Washington, better known as D. C. Washington. The vocals for his recently released album, “Home Run” were recorded and mixed at Bias Studios with Ken Barnum engineering and mastered by Mike Monseur. All proceeds go to charity as explained in this article outlining DC’s Dream Day in DC!

D.C. Washington would work several performances into his perfect day in the District.

The Washington Post describes his music as “timeless,” and “lushly instrumented rap-soul-funk.” It’s perfect timing for The Experience to be working at Bias, with his family’s roots in Go-Go, and the homecoming of Trouble Funk, this studio is full of what he calls “fire musicians.”

Go-Go, the funk beat that just goes and goes is back!

Trouble Funk has been laying down the funk in DC since 1978 and were a fixture in Bias’ Studio A in the 80’s working on Drop the Bomb and In Times of Trouble. Led by Big Tony, Trouble Funk is back tracking for a new release, with Mark Reiter engineering. Feels like old times!
