“Later, Matthew invited Jesus and his disciples to his home as dinner guests, along with many tax collectors and other disreputable sinners. But when the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with such scum?” When Jesus heard this, he said, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do.” Then he added, “Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: ‘I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.’ For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.””
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭9‬:‭10‬-‭13‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires. In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone. The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But those who fail to develop in this way are shortsighted or blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their old sins.”

Jesus repeatedly shared His mission of death and resurrection with His disciples, yet they argued about who would be greatest. This pattern of missing the bigger picture while fighting for position continues in churches today.....

When Jesus walked with His disciples, He repeatedly tried to share the bigger picture of His mission - that He would die, be betrayed, and rise again in three days. Yet instead of focusing on this monumental revelation, the disciples found themselves arguing about which one of them would be the grea...

There have been times reading in the Old and New Testament that I’ve thought…. “I would never do what they did to God” like with Moses and the Israelites, when they were worshiping a golden calf! Or like when Peter said he would never deny Christ. I read those and sometimes think that I am somehow stronger in my faith. That’s the sentiment that Jesus is referring to. They thought they were somehow closer to God and that what the Israelites had done to the messengers of God was not just as evil as what they do to the message and messenger of God. We should never forget that we too have turned our backs on the Word of God for foolish things and for sinful desires. We may not dance around a golden calf, but I’ve seen many a Christian dance around pop idols like Taylor Swift and many other musicians, while they flaunt their half-naked bodies and sing evil sexualized garbage. Don’t for a second think that we are somehow more Godly when we turn our backs on Jesus for more foolish things than a gold calf.

““What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you build tombs for the prophets your ancestors killed, and you decorate the monuments of the godly people your ancestors destroyed. Then you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our ancestors, we would never have joined them in killing the prophets.’ “But in saying that, you testify against yourselves that you are indeed the descendants of those who murdered the prophets. Go ahead and finish what your ancestors started. Snakes! Sons of vipers! How will you escape the judgment of hell?”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭23‬:‭29‬-‭33‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭2‬:‭1‬-‭11‬ ‭NLT‬‬
