memoir thoughts from admin Troy Phillips..
I was just texting to my wife’s neice and wrote this . I just lost my wife Leona Deemie . My heart feels so heavy right now . Please read this and learn a bit about how hard she struggled each day . This doesn’t say a ton about her struggles but it does say about her smiles and heart . She was the most beautiful person in the world to me :
Yes that or bed was about all she got to do .
I’ve been crying this morning thinking of her .
I haven’t said anything to anyone like this but every morning I’d get up to get us our coffee(s) .
I had regular coffee and she drank an organic decaf with about 3/4 inch of heavy whipping cream in it .
When she’d get up I put on some music for her of our friends . She years ago would work out and dance to music for a while in the morning.
So this is what I’d do for her . She’d watch me and we’d talk and laugh. She’d work her Word Search books , read the Bible a bit . After a few hours the sitting up would get her so tired she’d need to go back to bed to rest . I’d put on her favorite TV show . It was called Heartland . It was about horses and family life on a ranch in Canada. She’d watch that and I’d work around the house and prepare her a healthy meal.
I cut her up a salad . Everything had to be cut up so small because she was needing new teeth .
I’d crush up walnuts, macadamia and pecans to put on her salad. I’d shred up grass fed pasture raised cattle and sheep cheese to top it and also put on wild blueberries or organic strawberries. Then a had a special salad dressing I’d make . It was Apple Cider Vinegar and Lemon Juice that came from Italy , tart cherry juice, olive oil and Seabuckthorn berry oil then to sweeten it a touch I would drizzle on some honey we’d get from a friend’s uncle . He had his own bees .
I server her that salad with some kind of a meat that was grass fed or wild caught . We eat in bed . And talk about different things that made her happy or my work videotaping bands . She’d talk about people she loved and how she was going to go visit them when she got to feeling better. She was everyday fighting to just be her and was always going to get better so she could visit family.
When she’d finish her supper she’d look at me with a smile and say ok I’m ready for my dessert. I’d get her some ice cream of some kind and we’d watch her favorite show for a while. Heartland would give her a world to live in that made her happy. She’d talk about how she loved horses and then about elephants. Sometimes that may lead into us watching some shows on wildlife and the lives of animals. If I could get on a show about elephants or baby animals of any kind she was happy.
She had to have medicine all the time right on time to keep her calm and out of pain . Then come the late night she’d want another snack of maybe some popcorn. She’d eat a little then I’d give her some melatonin and her medicine. I’d hold her for a while she’d be hurting so bad all over from the polio and being worn out . Then I’d hold her hand and She would drift away to sleep.
It wasn’t the best life because she was so limited but she was in a happy place in her mind and heart .
Stress she could not have so we worked together to stay in happy place.
I’d tell her we were at team . We were put together to care for each other. She’d smile so pretty and want kisses. She’d tell me how much she loved me and thank me for caring and loving her. She’d say this over and over throughout the day.
I have chronic pain so I’d be awake most ch of the nights and I’d hold her hand and keep her calm while she slept . The pain shooting through her body at night or other pain from just being worn out from working hard her whole life . She’d moan and cry off and on in her sleep . It would make her nervous and stressed so I’d caress her and calm her and she’d drift back to sleep. I’d doze of and sleep here and there then we’d start our days over again.
She was so beautiful as we all are. If only we all had the time in our busy world to look at the beauty that is within in . Within the people who we share it with.
Some people like Leona have to live in hell every waking moment. If we can just make it a little better for them I think we make the world a better place to be in.
She was my everything and I now feel so lost inside.
