McAlester/Pittsburg County Emergency Management is mourning the tragic loss of two emergency responders who died Saturday, Nov. 1, during an accident at the H-Town Throwdown races in Hartshorne, Oklahoma. This was an organized street event.

A third individual passed away Friday evening while assisting with event preparations, the emergency agency stated.

The Emergency Management team released the following statement:

MCALESTER, Okla. — McAlester/Pittsburg County Emergency Management is deeply saddened to confirm that two of our emergency responders lost their lives Saturday, Nov. 1, during a tragic vehicle accident at the H‑Town Throwdown races in Hartshorne. A third individual died Friday evening while assisting with event preparations.

“Our hearts are broken for the families, friends, and fellow responders affected by this unimaginable loss,” said Leonard Baughman, McAlester/Pittsburg County Emergency Management Director. “These individuals gave themselves in service to our community, and their sacrifice will be felt across all of Pittsburg County.”

“We respectfully ask everyone to honor the privacy of the victims’ families and keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

Further information will be shared as it becomes available and as the families grant permission.
