A couple of very important points/facts to know:
✅ Fentanyl toxicity or fentanyl poisoning: an overdose caused by fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid. A toxic dose can cause life-threatening respiratory depression, and as little as 2 milligrams (5-7 grains of salt) can be fatal. Fentanyl poisoning means a person sought one substance, but they were unknowingly given fentanyl. It can and has happened with multiple types of medications to thousands of people!
✅ A TN Dept of Health report shows in 2023 (2024 data not available yet) there were 2,936 opioid-related deaths in Tennessee. In the United States, the CDC shows drug overdose deaths in the U.S. decreased by 26.9% in 2024. Overdose deaths specifically involving opioids dropped from an estimated 83,140 in 2023 to 54,743 in 2024.
