SWMO Regional Dispatch Our YouTube channel is now LIVE! The Dispatch is staffed with at least one professional journalist and co-editor. We are grateful to our sponsor ARETA, Inc.

The SWMO Regional Dispatch E-Paper covers southern Missouri with news stories, feature articles and interviews made especially for the amateur radio community, especially those involved in Emcomm operations in our area. Chief of Photography and multimedia specialist, Stringer reporters and others that help gather news and reporters. While our staff is very small we are looking for people to report

activity at their club meetings each month along with at least 1 photo. You do not have to be a professional, we can do the heavy lifting if you can get us the story basics. The Dispatch was created by Billy Dalton, who specializes in journalism and public relations and works professionally in the field as a stringer providing information and video/photos to news organizations like local TV broadcasters in a fee for service style format. I closed down the SWMO Telegraph, as it was known, in the summer of 2024 when SMARC's president tried to seize control and begin censoring the publication, something I would not stand for so we moved to an independent format. Today, there attempts to reserect the Telegraph to basically a one or two page flyer only covers its own club events, nothing more. for its sponsorship. The Dispatch is the ONLY news publication you can get free sent to your email the 1st day of every month. It also comes with companion page and coming soon, You Tube videos.

This week's Retro Saturday takes us back to March of this year, and the annual National Weather Service Spotter Training Class. The National Weather Service office in Springfield usually does several spotter training classes every year. These are usually held in February, or March. The Greene County class has been held most often at the Assembly's of God headquarters when open to the general public. This venue has ample seating, and facilities for audio visual presentations.

I was on hand as a Skywarn Net Control, the Greene County Skywarn Co-Coordinator, and the Southwest Missouri Regional Dispatch photographer. I hope you enjoy this glimpse into the event!

Sorry, I missed Retro Saturday this last weekend. I wasn't feeling good, and the post got missed. I didn't want to make you all wait till this coming Saturday, so we are doing a Retro Saturday on Monday! lol 😅

This entry comes from October 5th of last year (2024). There is a group of people called Weather Watchers. They started with KSPR before they merged with KY3. Then most of the group went with FOX 49, until they moved in with KOLR 10. Then Jamie invited the group to come over to KOLR 10. Weather Watchers turn in daily observations to a spreadsheet, and the KOLR 10weather staff use that info to help with their forecasts, and sometimes post them on air during news broadcasts.

The KOLR 10 Weather Team invited us over for some food, and a tour of the studio. I have been fortunate to have toured KY3's studio 3 times through school. Twice in the old studio for the media program at W.I.N.G.S., and once in their current studio when I was part of the Hillcrest High School media 1 class. I also got to tour the small studio that Ozarks Public Television had when they were still part of Druy University, as well as the Fox 49 station just shortly before it closed own.

I really enjoyed the time at KOLR 10! It reminded me of my past media class days, and that felt great! Today with modern mirrorless cameras having "hybrid" photo & video capabilities, you really can do both pretty easy. I think this might have been the beginning, along with the prep I d for the video interviews at Moore Expo, that's gotten me excited about video again. Man, I really wish I'd taken some video while I was there!!

Here is the first Retro Saturday posting for the Southwest Missouri Regional Dispatch. Today we are looking back at the 2024 NARC Hamfest. Usually held the first to middle of November, the NARC Hamfest is always a good time for all. One of the latter Hamfest in the year, it'd be a great time to find those Ham Radio stocking stuffers, and Christmas presents for the Amateur Radio Operator in your life.

Take a trip with us down a recent section of memory lane as we stroll down the aisles, take a look at several of the tables, and see what was on offer in November of 2024!

Congratulations to the Greene County Sheriff's Office new graduates. Welcome to the Ozarks!

It’s official — they made it.

After months of pushing themselves mentally and physically, Academy Class #5 has crossed the finish line. These future deputies have spent countless hours in the classroom, at the range, and in scenarios preparing for this moment.

Tonight, they took the oath, received their badges, and stepped into their roles as the newest Deputy Sheriffs at the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.

Help us welcome and congratulate Class #5 on this huge accomplishment! 👏👏👏
