This is such a great experiment. I agree 100%, in today's market it's not all about how much video resolution can your camera get or do. There are so many other factors that come into play while shooting. For example, if you have a 4K or even an 8k camera that's shooting with a shallow depth of field, all that detail the camera can pick up is obsolete anyway. I don't need to see every single pore on the actors face in order to get the story across. Besides, unless you're showing the film on an IMAX screen, the viewer is unlikely to see a difference. Even if your showing it on an IMAX screen the screen is so big that the viewer can still only focus on a certain point of the screen. I will agree it's a great selling point to say you can shoot the video in 4K, 6k, or beyond. But the reality is, it doesn't matter. It comes down to how it's shot edited that should be the selling point. Do you agree?
Assume that more resolution equals better? DP Steve Yedlin argues that we are already at peak resolution.
