The Empty Chair

The Empty Chair A space for those navigating life after loss. We share the quiet grief, the loud memories, and the everyday ache of losing a parent. Your grief is unique.

Because even when they’re gone, their seat in our hearts remains. No one grieves in exactly the same way. Your particular experience will be influenced by the type of relationship you had with your parent, the circumstances surrounding the death, your emotional support system and your cultural and religious background. As a result, you will grieve in your own way and in your own time. Don't try to

compare your experience with that of other people, or adopt assumptions about just how long your grief should last. Consider taking a "one-day-at-a-time" approach that allows you to grieve at your own pace.

I am guessing the chapel worked.

Sitting with his granddaughter Traci, he said last week , “Eventually, I’ll just die watching TV and the channel will change.”
Today at 119pm our dad, Donald “Donnie” Hunnicutt, passed away after a brief battle with cancer. His life was never defined by sadness but by laughter, stories, and love — and even in his hardest days, he kept his humor close.

We’re grateful for the legacy he leaves: his stubborn strength, his endless jokes, his unforgettable nicknames, and the deep love he gave to family and friends.

As we say goodbye, we’ll carry him forward in every laugh, every story, and every memory.

Rest easy, Dad. 💔 The channel may have changed, but the memories live on forever.

“Today we begin hospice care for Dad. At this stage, comfort is the most important gift we can give him. He’s still fighting but plain ass tired. This next chapter is about peace, dignity, and surrounding him with love.” We are unsure how long we hands could be 2 weeks or 2 years, but he will know we are here for him!
